Ljos- Acrobatic Dance with Pulsating Light and Sound

This dance, called "Ljos," is translated as "the latent content of the dream in a manifested state."

Sound familiar?

As we examine the Freudian focus of this dance, Freud would applaud to uncover and explore the latent content of the dream world in an artist way. The artist allows the audience to become more aware of dreams, notice the mysterious nature of dreams to reveal something about the psyche. Even more powerful for Freud is the combination of the latent content with the manifest form of the dance.

How would Freud interpret these interpretations of "dreams"?

There is the focus on violence and trauma as the dancer contorts as though shocked by electricity, or exhibits the pain of torturous movements.

But does it speak to latent sexual trauma and/or fetish?
Does it speak to sexual identity?

It certainly speaks to development. It could speak of the development of ego, and perhaps the base desires of the id, as the dancer moves through womb-like pulsations and the passions increase towards the end of the dance.

  1. Looks like a lot of dance/work to me. I can see the Freudian influence, but perhaps there's more here...maybe Cixous?
