This is from the midterm that I forgot to post on the blog!
The diagram that I have created is a
solar system type of diagram with each planet of theory orbiting around the
imagined sun of literary criticism. I did not include the center of the solar
system in this diagram, since I did not want to show one theory as being closer
to the sun or more correct than others, but rather have portrayed the “planets
of theory” as a journey of beginning to end. Within the diagram, each planet
has its orbiting moons representing the various related theorists.
Though
most of the design is fairly basic in appearance, a few nuances exist to show
the different theories. For example, the “planet of Romantic Theory” has rings,
since they would be the only theorists who would care about having an
aesthetically pleasing, nature filled planet. Also, the “planet of Classical
Theory” demonstrates the two viewpoints of Plato—who is outside of the
planet—compared to Aristotle, who is focused on the particulars of the planet.
